HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS HONORED

The Flora High School video class received four nominations and won two 1st place awards at the first annual Wabash Valley College, High School Emmy Awards.

Those nominated were a piece called “Softball Preview” by Josh Nash which was nominated for Best Video Sports Story.  “Wolves Cheer” by Kamry Austin was nominated for Best Video News Package.

Those nominated and winning their respective categories were “Mean Girls” a video by Kamry Austin won in the Best Video News Package category, and “The Howler” a video by Kamry Austin and Josh Nash won for Best Video Show.

Top high school welders showcased their skills during the OCC Welding Program's Fourth Annual Brandon Blackford Memorial Welding Competition.

Winning First Place was Grant Kauble of Flora High School.  He received a $750 scholarship and a Lincoln 3350 welding hood.  Second Place was won by Justin McCormick of Flora High School.  He received a $500 scholarship and a Lincoln 3350 welding hood.  Third Place was won by Weston Miller of Clay City High School.  He received a $250 scholarship and a 1740 Lincoln hood.

The scholarships were made possible by the Brandon Blackford Scholarship Fund.  Brandon's family also provided T-shirts for the event.  There were 13 students from Flora, Newton Community, Richland County, North Clay and Clay City High Schools.
