According to the Illinois Department of Employment Security, the June Unemployment Rate in Clay County jumped 1.1% to 4.9%.

It also jumped in all area counties, as well.

The rates in those counties for June are in Effingham County, 3.5%; Jasper County, 4.9%; Richland County, 4.5%; Wayne County, 5.3%; and, in Marion County, 4.9%.

The IDES reported an increased demand for employees in education. Stable employment was reported in wholesale trade and other services. Top occupations for hire included Healthcare, Transportation, Retail Trade, and Manufacturing.

The unemployment rate identifies those who are seeking employment. A person who exhausts unemployment benefits will still be reflected in the statistics if they are actively seeking work.
